Default Install Lightroom on top of Lightroom?

Kind of a software question, or image editing question, but this seems better placed. Anyone have LR before the "$10 cloud solution" and just install the "cloud version" of LR?

If so, did you just install over the existing version?
Did you have to do anything "odd"?
Did the original license of LR get free'd up, replaced with the cloud tied one?
Did the catalog need to be reimported, etc?

Note this is specifically related to installing the cloud version when you already had a single purchased one. And it is not to be used as a kick off topic to love or hate the Adobe cloud scheme.

I don't have the cloud, but if it's anything like other software programs I have...

My sign software for instance.
When I loaded the program it loaded the full blown version.
Then when I upgraded I was given a code that unlocked my new purchase.
It was always on my computer, just not accessible until I was given the code.
Everything stayed the same, just the new features appeared.
Or like PS plug-ins that just appear in the existing program with no changes to the program.
Sort of a seamless transition.
MIght LR be the same way?

BTW: Can you go back to the old version if you decide to abandon the cloud, without losing anything?

Yeah, this really isn't an typical upgrade scenario. The current version is the most up to date, it just has never been the one from the "cloud version". So in reality, just PHotoshop CC is all that is actually installed. The LR side of it is "not installed".

So really more interested in how to make it "installed" without having to do a lot of stuff, like rework or recipe the catalogs, or lose anything...
