I used to have a Linksys unit. I ended up replacing it with a NetGear N600 Dual Band unit and it's been trouble free for the past few years.

Hmmmmn, I've been using Linksys for years and the only issue I've ever had is that one died after about 5 years. The replacement is getting up to that age now, I hope that's not a sign.

Switching out modems made a good bit of difference for me first of all. That is, going from Docsis 2 to 3.

Then I switched out my old Linksys WRT54G for an ASUS AC1900 RT68r and it was so unstable. Updates out all the time to try and fix the issues. Finally it became somewhat reliably constant when it suddenly bricked. This is one time I am glad I bought the extended warranty (normally I never buy them) so I got it replaced with no problems after 4 months went by. Best Buy had already pulled them from the shelf.

Replaced with a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 and not a single problem. Right out of the box it has a stronger signal going to the other end of my property to another house. Approximately 120 feet, 2 thick walls and getting 4 bars (vs 3 with the ASUS) consistently. I only have 3 other routers close in the vicinity so not much interference.

I use a Linksys router. It ran nicely when new and it ran a LOT better after I upgraded the firmware via dd-wrt.com's update. Stability was never an issue, but now it has greater range and all my devices connect at higher transfer rates in all modes.

The router is in my basement, but I often connect via laptop from my driveway to the home network. I can get a connection from 5 houses down and the laptop inside my car.

Basically, I could be an ISP for my entire street and not change anything except maybe bring the router up to the main floor... lol

If I had to purchase a new router tomorrow, it would have to be the Netgear Nighthawk R7000, again with the dd-wrt.com firmware.
