Default Win7x64 won't see 70D

Alas, I sit here again giving Canon the finger for the lack of resources to resolve "camera not found" errors. I went thru this with my 30D (to no avail) and figured things would go more smoothly with my new 70D.

Nope - same ol garbage. Windows sees a camera but won't recognize it's model...which leads to total disfunction of the EOS utility....and others.

Could somebody please help me? I just want windows to see my camera model so I can move forward.

Win7 x64 - freshly updated (MS updates), all new versions of canon software from their site. Nada - nothing. Junk!!!

Thanks in advance

Sorry, can't see it being a problem with 2 cameras.
You say the pc is freshly updated. Does this include drivers for the hardware, not just windows updates?
Try going into the Device Manager and right clicking on the USB and updating the drivers.
Another thing, are you using the same lead each time? Try a different lead.

Thank for your help. yea - i tried different usb ports.

The 30D worked after many, many hours of research and screwing with it....just like I'm doing now. Updating drivers fails as WIN doesn't know what to do with it. I'm seeing the MTP/WPD USB driver (win7) being an issue but, neither MS or Canon offer it for download. MS bring you to a page that says "do a windows update". - yea- thanks. :/

I have a WIN7 work laptop next to me that recognizes is just fine. I know the problem isn't the camera. It Microsoft changing the communication method and not offering any docs or solutions....and Canon being just as helpless. In the past, random PCs would see my 30D and others wouldn't....apparently I'm still stuck in this again even with a brand new camera and brand new PC.

The newest EOS utility is crap. It get's stuck in "searching for wifi" and gives no other options. At least with the old version, it gives me the full menu of options, though remote shooting is greyed out.

Without going on a complete tirade...i'll zip it for now.

ETA - Camera's wireless is disabled as it should be.

You could try to get the USB drivers from the PC manufacturers. I've never been happy with the default Microsoft offerings

USB function is fine. It's the device driver that's barfing.
The net is FULL of ppl with the same issue. Everyone dances the same dance and get's nowhere.

Canon has some great products but historically, has consistently dropped the ball with this particular issue. With so many smart ppl working at Canon, it disturbs me that they can't get this right.

Maybe I set myself up for this disappointment. When contemplating the 70D purchase, one of my thoughts was "By now they must have fixed the tethering methods. Can't wait to plug it in and have it just work".

yea - um, no.
:/

I know, first world problems right?

hehe

- thank you fine sir! Looks like you're working at it almost had tenaciously as I....much appreciated. I'm downloading the "Feature Pack" with my fingers crossed - looks promising. My system properties don't specify "N" but, I have a good feeling about this. I've gotten so far as to have windows recognize a valid driver but, when I go to enable it I get "Access Denied". I love getting "Access Denied" on my OWN pc. lol - unreal Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
