Default What is the best Monitors under $1000?

Buddy got (2) of these on sale at some discount site for like $740 each

Dell UP2414Q 24" Widescreen LED Backlit IPS Ultra UP2414Q

I'm currently using an ASUS VE249 which is OK, but I would like to get something with abit more color and brightness latitude. Thoughts? What are most of you using? I also understand the DELL Ultrasharp U2711 is also a great monitor

I'm using an older Dell Ultrasharp U2410. Excellent monitor when combined with Colormunki (or similar device) to callibrate it.

That Dell 2414 might be one of the best monitors around, but not many are going to pop for one at that price. Need a $1000 graphics card to run it too. I like it when I hit the 1:1 image zoom button to actually have the image get much bigger. With an 8mp monitor, it won't.

Thanks for the comments. After much research the past few days I have actually narrowed it down to the ASUS PA279Q IPS Model. Every summary I have read give it thumbs up!

I've got an Asus PA246, and a PA248, both in 24" 1920x1200. I paid almost $500 for the 246 and got the 248 for half that on closeout on NewEgg.

I think the wider gamut color is the only thing they have going for them. The viewing angle stinks so I'm not sure how good the IPS panel and it's so called "Wide Viewing Angle" is.

Another thing I've found is the the adjustments can be a little clunky. For example, incrementing the contrast control one click brings me either too high, or too low while calibrating.

Not slamming on them. Their decent monitors just figured I'd fill ya in.

It's the price point vs. capabilities that makes them attractive. My 248 performs better then the 246...and it was 1/2 the price. If you can, wait for a deal on 'em.

ETA: It really is a darn shame that glossy screens are so 1,184 days ago...glossy looks so much nicer.

I have the same, U2410, love it, came with color corrected default settings (included a test/calibration sheet with all values)

I got my as a warranty replacement for my even older UltraSharp 24" Dell, (forgot the model). Boy was I glad it had 3 year warranty (this replacement I got near the the end of the 3 years hence an upgraded model)

If you go ahead and get the ASUS PA279Q IPS Monitor, be sure to chime back in with your thoughts on it.
