Is there an upper price limit in your mind for what you are willing to pay for a desktop and/or notebook computer?

In the old days, it was probably $5,000. What is it today in your mind?

Nothing. All of my computers are old, given to me when people upgrade. Sometimes I have to remove viruses or buy a power supply, hard drive, etc.

I tend to do 'rolling upgrades' instead of complete builds. My informal price limit is $100 per component, be it a CPU, HD, Mobo, SSD, etc.

The one exception is for video cards. The 'sweet spot' generally runs around $150 for a decent 256 bit model. Once purchased, I'll generally keep if for several years.

all told, no more than $1400 assuming I do a desktop rebuild. if a pre-built, $700. if I went to apple, about $500 for an iPad. a laptop, no more than $400. never will I buy a chrome, no matter how cheap.
