Default Lightroom: Nikon D600 Vertical Frames Not Importing Rotated

I have a Nikon D600 (which I'm still not sure about...) and Lightroom V4.x

When I import photos from the D600 into Lightroom, the frames that were shot vertically are not rotated. They're all horizontal and have to be rotated in batches.

I do not have the same issue with my D300s - the vertical frames I shoot with it all import as they were shot.

Any clues?

Thanks,

--PS

Do you have the rotate flag set in your camera? I assume Nikon has the option to disable, same as Canon?

I do not have the camera set to rotate vertical frames when I view them in the LCD; but I have the D300s set the same way, to not rotate on playback in the LCD, but those frames import vertically into Lightroom.

Is that the setting you are asking about?

I thought there was a setting for viewing in LCD and one for viewing on computer, but yes, it would be that type of setting that I'm referring to.

The only setting in the D600 that would be applicable is "Rotate Tall" in the playback menu. I don't think that has any bearing on the import.

It turns out there is an "Auto Image Rotation" setting - in the Setup menu. I changed that to "ON" and now the files import correctly.

Glad you figured it out. For clarification, is that setting in LR or in the camera?

It's in the setup menu on the camera.

Thanks,

I have a D800 and have that flag set as well, but it does not do what I want.

What I want is for the jpg images to be CHANGED on import and rotate them to BE vertical when shot as vertical. What Lightroom does is NOT change the jpgs at all but just use the flag internally so that when you use Lightroom to display the images it will show them as vertical. Other programs, however, like Windows Viewer, will display them horizontally.

How do I get Lightroom to CHANGE them permanently to vertical?

For JPGs you need to tweak a setting in the camera

Playback menu
Rotate Tall OFF

I know there was a change at least from D300 to D7100 in the menu setup for this iirc.

Lightroom does auto rotate for me , windows viewer shows them horizontal (not rotated)

Also lightroom will handle JPG and RAW files differently in this regard if I recall.
