Default Norton is ruining my life

Hi, I purchased a Norton system to "protect" my computer. It is one of the worst mistakes I have ever made so I'm hoping someone here can help me. First, I'm willing to take my lumps and buy a new system but I don't want the same problem I Have. They are constantly advertising to buy more of their products. I use yahoo as my home page but everytime I log in I get a screen with a search box and an ad for some Norton product. I feel like my computer is possessed by Norton. I should add that I'm an old guy and NOT tech savvy. Any help greatly appreciated. Mike

Get Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free. Or AVG Anti-Virus.

Uninstall Norton. Go to Microsoft and download Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, effective, and really all you need.

Norton sucks. Uninstall it - link for Norton tool:
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/...rProfile_en_us

Replace it with AVG or Avast! - both free.

If you want additional malware protection, I can recommend Malwarebytes.

Good luck

Martin

Once photography enters your bloodstream, it is like a disease.

Software: Too numerous to list but my most used utility is ShiftN for perspective correction

Gear: Canon G12, no tripod, no lenses, no flash, no remote, no cases or bags!

Another vote for Microsoft security Essentials. I don't believe it has a register cleaner though. You might have to purchase one. Norton is bad, bad, bad about popups and is slow. It is also hard to completly get rid of.

To fully un-install all the Norton crud that comes with it, you will need to go to the Norton website and get the un-installer directly from the site, otherwise your other anit-virus may not function fully and you'll still be getting all the Norton sales pitch type stuff.

I have just posted the link for the uninstall tool above.

Strange. I have been using norton on 4 computers on my house for the past several years and I have never had a of that.

I get a once- a week status report and that is about it.

I dumped Norton many years ago. Was on AVG for a long time, now have everything running MSE.

After going through the same aggravations with Norton some 12 years ago, or more, I dumped it and went with AVG. Between AVG and MSE you should not have a problem and they are both free.
