I only change my OS when I get a new PC. This meant that I missed the "pleasure" of having Vista on my machine .
XP was pretty good, W7 was a logical progression of that. Why anyone would want to rush out and spend good money on an untried OS that was primarily designed for mobile devices and stick it on their PC/laptop, totally escapes me !

Wonder how long before we start getting "leaks" about W9, that will fix all the problems in W8 ??

I was using XP on my MAC until it died. Got the new MACBook Pro & installed 8 but wasn't impressed. I have 7 on it now & it runs the printer & CNC fine so I'm sticking with that for now.
8 is different but not in a good way OMHO.

Installed upgrade to 8 from 7 on my desktop. Very easy and clean. At first, apps wouldn't work. Upgrading Avast anti-virus solved the problem. The latest free version supports 8. Have everything I had + much better apps for some of the stuff I do all the time. I think the new OS is elegant...even a bit spectacular. The sports app made me wish I was a sports fan!

I got a new laptop this summer so I could avoid 8 as long as possible. Part of it is my dislike for touch screens because I do so much keyboard intensive stuff, but I also didn't want a new OS before LR and NIK and everyone else catch up.

I'm very happy with Windows 7, except for that fricking WiFi miniport adapter that disables my wifi periodically...but I just disabled it for good. Take that, Microsoft!!!

I'm staying with Windows 7. It is better than XP (especially when it comes to networking and sharing) and I don't really have any complaints about it.

I bought a new HP desktop in September to replace my Dell Pentium 4 with XP. I now have Win7 and I love it. I think Win8 is too jumbled full of pictures and apps and stuff I'm not interested in having on my desktop. Granted, I haven't used it, nor have I used a tablet. But, while I can see a purpose on a tablet, I think those of use who prefer a desktop with a 23 or 25 inch monitor should have a OS that better suits our needs. I think that is Win7. Time will tell if Microsoft has made the right decision for the future. I know that desktops are becoming like the dinosaurs, but they are what I've technologically grown up on and I just like the computer sitting there humming away. Keeps me company

Excellent point about consuming vs. producing information!

[QUOTE=gumper;1730809]Eero: lol

I rather despise the new look of the big desktop buttons which MS is implementing on all their products, even Hulu got the change. It has such a simpleton sort of feel to it that its almost insulting. I'm just weird that way though.

Incidentally, My neighbor is a medical student and bought a pad for school along with the other students. He said they're all whining about it now because they cant do what they need to with them. He went back to a laptop.

I have to agree that Win8 looks like MS designed it for implementation in kindergarten!

Microsoft have made the decision that they think will bring the biggest financial return - they don't give a damn' about what the "thinking" user might actually need. They think that the biggest return is from spotty faced teenagers queueing up at midnight to buy the latest offering before anyone has even tried it - well, that appears to be the way they are going ! Already MS & Sony appear to have a lot of unhappy purchasers whose latest attempt at "cutting edge" technology is already falling apart at the seams - literally !!

Only because MS is trying to make us think that desktops are dinosaurs. Do they really think that users of Photoshop (in my case) and the myriad of other packages which NEED a proper keyboard/mouse and a decent sized screen are going to jump with joy at the prospect of trying to do all this on a tablet or iPhone ??

I can see a specialist manufacturer doing quite well out of this in the not too distant future ..................................
