Let me get this; Which preferences folder are you talking about. could you be more specific please.
There is a a directory under CS4 & CS5 Folders > Plug-ins Folder > NIK Software Folder.

I actually just went (under OSX) to Photoshop>Preferences>Plug-Ins...
and ticked the box for Additional Plug-Ins Folder then used the choose button to navigate to my Photoshop CS3 Plugins folder.

That was all - not a specific NIK folder but the main plugins folder in Photoshop.

Remember that you have to change Photoshop CS5 to run in 32 bit though.

Good luck!

I've been putting CS5 off too. Still not sold on the upgrade to be honest...

The problem is with CS6 or whatever they are gonna call it, the upgrade's gonna get us if we don't. Those darn Adobe people.

CS4 was a minor upgrade. CS5 was a major upgrade. CS6 ?

You mean if we don't get CS5 we can't "upgrade" to the next one? I think you're allowed to skip a level, aren't you?

Anyone have an idea of when the next upgrade will be?

I guess I should review the changes again. Problem is, that will make me want to spend the money on it! And for me the upgrades are a pain because I have to have them sent to me from the states...

I sure hope so after spending 1 1/2 hrs. with tech support just getting it to load on my machine. A simple upgrade with legal and substantiated serial numbers and it still said no can do. Even the tech. guy was baffled for some time.

I've just installed Silver Efex Pro and it runs in CS5 64 bits and of course in CS5 32 bits too. I also have Elements 9 (I use it to teach a friend of mine) and the plugin is also there. I'm on Windows 7 64 bits.
Seems there is some misunderstanding about this 64 bits vs 32 bits:

If you have a 64 bits operating system (Windows 7 for example), the Photoshop CS5 setup will install the 64 bits and the 32 bits versions as independant softwares. It should be the same thing with MAC (if not, switch to PC !!)

Now what about plugins?

Lets suppose you want to install a PS plugin. There are good chances this plugin works only in 32 bits. If this is the case, it will install automatically in the plugin folder of PS CS5 32 bits version (if you open the 64 bits CS5, you won't see the plugin).

If the plugin is a 64 bit version, it will install in the appropriate plugin folder (CS5 64 bits in this case). The 64 bit versions of plugins have also a 32 bits setup for those who are still working with 32 bits operating systems.

Sorry if my english is not that good (I'm french speaking), but I hope this will bring some answers.

Conclusion: don't fear to upgrade to CS5 64 bits if you wish, since you will have access to (almost) all plugin avalaible on the market.
