Default 2 TB hard drives -the max?

Now that there are plenty of 2 terabyte hard drives on the market, I was wondering: is that the limit for today's 32-bit operating systems? Somehow I remember reading that Win32 can't recognize drives larger than 2 TB.

Found this on the MS web site
For Windows Server 2003 SP1 Windows XP x64 edition, and later versions, the maximum raw partition of 18 exabytes can be supported. (Windows file systems currently are limited to 256 terabytes each.)

They also said that you would need to use aGUID Partition Table instead of using the standard MBR.
But you can not boot from the GPT disc unless you are running Vista or newer

So what hear is that 2 TB is by no means the maximum drive size, right?

32 bit OS/s are limited to 2.2 TB, but the 64 bit OS/s are not (except for 64 bit Win XP) (ref here). So, while you are technically correct, an up to date 64 bit OS will render this limit obsolete.

This is the page I found showing how large a hard drive can be used. They include XP64 in being able to support the larger then 2 TB hard drives

Windows and GPT FAQ: Version 1.1
