I would ditch your current antivirus app and run security essentials.

Douglas, I think you could be right. I spend more time on music forums than tab sights, but am gilty of having frequented the others from time to time.

That's not a guess, golfer, that's harsh reality: un-protected Windows PCs are infected by (a) virus(es) within on average 14 seconds of connecting to the internet for the first time...!

And you thought HIV/AIDS was a problem...

Heather; good comment and true statement IMO. I think it is great that some may be able to use the net and not get viruses, but it would be hard to convince me that was the norm.
Best wishes

That IS the norm for Mac users, golfer...

An interesting update; Last evening I was on the internet, Youtube and looking for the lyrics to a song my 9 year old grand son wanted to sing for a school program. We were searching and listening to youtube for about 20 minutes when I received a caution on my compute that; it had intercepted 3 trojans.
That should tell us something about needing a virus program.
I was using the Microsoft program by the way.

That is precisely the target app for malware!

some anti virus programs don't like running on a computer with another AV program installed also take into account all the extra processes from your AV software starting up with the computer, so your performance may take a big hit.

That probably the number 1 misconception with Mac users. I have a Mac Book Pro at the moment and I do run virus software. Viruses do exist but Macs are not targeted as much as Windows. Here’s a small list of threats that Mac users face. As long as your connected to the internet you need to protect yourself no matter what operating system you are using.
