Didn't realize McAffee was so poorly thought of. Are there reasons for this or is it just personal taste? Reason I ask is I have McAffee on my new Dell with a two year subscription. Hate to throw it away unless it is just no good.
Thanks and best wishes.

"Poorly thought of" is an understatement:

Currently there are roughly 130,000 different Windows viruses in the wild. Looking for your PC! But none for Macs! So Mac owners don't have worry about viruses. And consequently they don't have to pay, every year again, for anti-virus apps...

Thanks and best wsishes.
See this thread:

I would ditch your current antivirus app and run security essentials.

You folks have given me a lot of information. Unfortunatly I have not been as luck with viruses as some of you as I got one last year. I had been downloading guitar related sheet music hand music theory info durng that time and AVG did not catch it. I was able to get thing back up, but not without a lot of work.
My best guess is that if you are going to be on the internet, you are subject to a virus.
My wife has had a couple in last 5 or 6 years and I have had some as well. AVG caught them for us.
I downloaded Microsoft Security today and have been trying to delete McAffee. What a mess trying to find all that stuff they put everywhere. Any suggestions on how to get rid of all of it?
Thanks and best wishes.

I cant remember where I read it, but lyrics and guitar tab sites are near the top of the list of usually infected sites. I guess the thinking is that everyone will go "what song are those lyrics from" or similar.
