Default Bottle Cap Product Shots

I work for Closure Systems International - a closure manufacture (that's bottle caps for most folks), and I've started doing the product photography they used to send out to professionals. Here are a few samples from my latest shoot for a press release on a new product. My official job is as a mechanical engineer - I do machine design.
Feel free to C&C

Subject on glass - white foam core background. Blue gel for blue background. Took a shot with no caps on the glass - used that and a mask layer to lose the reflections on the first shot. DIY soft box camera left. CD Jewel Case covered with foil tape as a reflector camera right. Strobes fired with CTR-301 ebay triggers.

I'm into macro photography and I'm impressed with these shots. Excellent illumination, no glaring hot spots, good angles. I prefer the photos with the reflection. The green cap has an artifact extending out from the left cap. Very good work

I have to agree, I think the lighting shows the product very well.
I also prefer the shots with the reflection.
Nothing else I can really add. Nice.

The lighting is good. This is a difficult shot to pull off because of the extreme magnification and relatively deep depth of field required.

Only thing I could add is that if you're shooting on glass with a white background (or any background) and eliminating the reflections you need to create your own drop shadows so the subjects have the appearance of having some weight and substance. As they are now they're just floating on white. They look artificially stripped out of the background.

Drop shadows would add some realism.

Thanks. I was handing these off to the graphic artist on the job, who often adds shadows and such - no need for me to second guess what he'll want.

Thanks. The "artifact" is actually a reflection of the background wrapping around the cap a bit, so a wee little bit of the cap is blown making it look like something funky is going on.

I haven't figured out how to completely eliminate that when shooting shiny things on white. I had black cards up to close off the background just outside the shot which helps a lot, but doesn't completely eliminate it.

Very nice.
What Camera/Lens did you you use for these excellent shots?

Thanks. Shot these with a D80 and an old Sigma AF 90mm 2.8 Macro.
It should also be noted that these are focus-stacked - I thought I had mentioned that in the original post, but it isn't there. I used CombineZP for the stacking.
