Default Machinery

This is a small bottle capping machine that I shot earlier this week.

If we decide to use these for anything I will clean up scratches and such.

C&C Welcome.

Intricate piece of equipment. Is this the machine that actually places the cap on the bottle? As for the photography you did really good with the lighting to avoid hot spots with the polished chrome. Nicely done.

The difficult part of lighting something as large as this piece of machinery is getting continuos, even specular highlights along the entire length of the shiny parts. I like the second shot because you were able to do just that. Good job!

Thanks, folks.

Yes, this is the machine that applies the caps to the bottles. This is just a little guy built for a trade show 360mm pitch with 6 heads. Something at a major bottler would be a larger machine with many more heads.

For lights on this I hung 6' square white, fabric shower curtains from booms. On the other side of the curtain I placed a speedlight firing into a silver umbrella, so the light was well spread out when it hit the curtain. Behind I had black paper and two blue-gelled speedlights. One firing at the paper, and one with a sto-fen dome firing into the machine.

Zemlin - These are excellent shots. I know this is a photography site, but I spent most of my career as a process engineer and when I see a cool machine I automatically want to know size, capacity, cycle times and how much $.

Intricate setup and definitely worth the effort. Any chance you took a shot of the setup?

In any case, good work and nicely done.

Thanks. I did not think to shoot the setup. Will try to remember that next time I'm shooting something like this.
