There are so many different types of product photography it's hard to say what you might need.

I would want at least......

3 studio flashes- I prefer a pack and head system with a 1200ws power pack at a minimum and 3 heads. 2-1200ws power packs would be more versatile.

11" and 7" round reflectors for flash heads

Several softboxes, 1- extra small (16"x22") 2-small (2'x3') and 2-medium (3'x4')

Diffusion panels large and small

Grids 10-40 degree set of 4

Heavy duty boom to place a softbox overhead, used in 90% of all setups.

white foamcore reflectors

6 light stands for lights, boom and reflectors

2-3 articulated arms or grip heads and arms for positioning reflectors/gobos

several gobos or black cards

background stands and cross bar

several sandbags

heavy duty tripod

A clamps, super clamps

Every single camera and all of the lenses that I've ever owned.

Too Funny! I'll tell my client that next time they want to shoot in the evening at their location with no windows. They'll get a laugh too.

Daylight and reflectors are useless at night or in a location without windows. He asked for lighting equipment, not wishful thinking.

I use a couple of continuous CFL lights (5400K) with umbrellas to provide basic, even illumination, two off camera flashes (SB900 and SB600) generally bounced off reflectors, and a large softbox strobe on a boom from above. Also use lots of white foam core reflectors. The lighting requirements will vary depending on the product.

I haven't done a LOT of product shots, but I shoot with 4-5 speedlights, Cybersync triggers, light stands, umbrellas, white shower curtains for diffusion panels, DIY soft boxes from 8x10 - 27" square. I have photographed objects as small as bottle caps and as large as 12' tall industrial machines.

My lighting is underpowered for large shoots, no question, but I manage.

1 light source and a brain to figure out the rest.
