Default Flash with 50D Live View?

When I was doing a shoot last weekend, I fired one shot with live view enabled and the hotshoe remote did NOT fire my (borrowed) softbox. Does flash not work in live view mode? I've read the manual, but don't remember seeing this.

Thanks.

Just tested: flashhotshoe works in LV, at least on 1D3 and 40D...

...€0.02...

Kindest regards!

Thanks, Max.

Was that with Canon flash or trigger for a remote flash? I'll test mine with my 430EX as well.

I remember reading if you are using a non-canon flash and are set to silent mode, the flash will not fire. Let me find a reference for you after I confirm this to be true.

Looks like that was it. Apparently live view defaulted to silent mode (mode 1), which with a Canon flash will automatically disable and fire the flash, but with a non-Canon flash will not fire the flash. So, I have to disable silent mode if I want to use studio lighting with live view.
