Thought the Canonites should know

http://nikonimaging.com/global/news/2007/0823_01.htm

Interesting where the Nikon guys are heading with their feature sets... along with the fuller frame, there are also three super tele 4-600mm VR lenses coming down the pipe. soon it will all come down to "What would you like on your sandwich"....oops! I mean "Camera" :0

If nothing else, it should provide lot's to chat about on the interweb... be nice

Jeff

This is exciting news for Canon users. Finally there is a serious competition to Canon's almost dominant position in dSLR market. Hopefully that will translate into lower prices for the newly announced Canon cameras.

Exciting times for buyers.

Almost dominate position?

Sounds like a load of garbage.

Alright, totally dominant position. Is that better.

Garbage and jerk? what's going on Mr.P. Did I offend you in anyway.

And yes, Canon has a dominant position, in terms of market share, in the dSLR market. Kindly do your research before calling people names. Thanks.

I'm defiantly rethinking my camera strategy now. IDMK3 no AF in Live View, IMO a killer decision.

Was thinking of the 40D instead, but the new Nikon has live view AF ~ on paper, a better specified machine.

Kindly state your meaning before announcing it later. It is very typical of you. Spoon feed info after the fact. A dominant market share is a trivial matter to most people who actually use a camera. I am sure a lot of people buy a camera based on that statistic, and people should feel sorry for them.

If you actually did research, you would find that when it comes to the actual "goods", Canon has no "dominant" position. In fact, they won't even have the fastest DSLR camera.

Are they a fine camera company? Yup. Is Nikon? Yup. Changing your tune from "Almost dominant" to "total domination" shows a bit of whatever you want to call it to me. Maybe you should have added wink to that 5min opinion change.

There is no opinion change. I used the the word "almost" in order not to offend anybody, especially brand sensitive ones.

Second, what else could "dominant" mean. It's sales and only sales, translated into market share.

Regarding dSLR market, according to an IDC report for 2006, the numbers:

Canon = 46.7%
Nikon = 33%
Sony = 6.2%
Olympus = 5.9%
Pentax = 5.4%

This is ONLY for dSLRs, though. Source: NEWS! - IDC reports on 2006 digicam market

I'd hardly describe a 13% lead as "dominant" market share, especially since the market share is still under 50%.
