I pre-ordered a 1DsMIII yesterday. I have two 1DMIIIs in my budget for this year, too, when the AF issues are resolved. I currently shoot with 1DMII, 1DMIIN and 5D. I have 1.5TB in two external drives and about 2.5TB in RAID arrays on my workstations. I think computer power and storage will continue to grow faster than the dribbling out of technology by Canon, et alia, as there is much more competition in that market and it is much easier to switch ... my Canon glass won't work on Nikon but my external drives, disks and RAID controllers will work with many boards and CPU types.. I also expect that 64 OSes will become more prevalent as we move forward and then the applications will catch up.

14 bits and 22 mp is all good...disk drive storage is dirt cheap....off line the files to optical to keep your disk drives from filling up....bring on 36mp raws!!!

Dry skin sucks. I like Lubriderm for this. I'm sure some crazy Nikon guy will say Aveeno is better.

No promised date ... just a November expectation ... since they didn't take any money I'm not too concerned as I don't need it for any current projects but I'm hoping to get projects when I have it.

I have 2x 8GB CF card, 1x 4GB CF, 2x 2GB CF, so why i should be worry?
In addition i bought 2 external harddrives each 500GB which means i have 1TB and i can add more harddrive, that including few harddrives i had in the past between 80 and 200GB, and i use 1Ds MKII and 5D and no problem, so even with this new higher MP i can have space for working.

Just spent the last week setting up a NAS box - 4x500GB IDE ATA drives in RAID5 formation hanging off a 3Ware controller. All running on an ancient 400Mhz Pentium III with 256MB of memory . That's all you need for NAS though. Now have somewhere relatively safe for 25K images (a lot of which are in DNG format as they're half the size of ORF - the Olympus uncompressed format).

So, I agree with trentchau - you can't compare the value of something like 25K images to the cost of a hard drive. 500MB disk is around 60 at the moment - trivial compared to the cost of the images (in terms of effort or sentimentality). My next step is to finish off the other NAS to use as a secondary storage.

Probably any of these modern dual-core machines that's configured properly. My friend just bought a Core 2 Duo laptop for $600 that runs circles around AutoCAD 2008 with SQL Server and Visual Studio running in the background. AMD's first quad-core chip comes out tomorrow. Computer power is no problem. And anyone paying thousands for a new 1Ds for the competitive edge the resolution will give them isn't going to blink at $300 for a better CPU, although they've probably already got one.

Depends how many exposures you record, and keep. You can get a terrabyte external drive for around $100 these days, so storage is really a non-issue. You still want redundant storage, you know, in case of fire or whatever, by two external drives and a DVD burner ought to be sufficient.
