Default Canon 5D LCD: Useless in sunlight?

I've heard good things about the LCD on the 5D, EXCEPT when it comes to using the camera in sunlight. For those of you who have seen this camera, what are your thoughts on the LCD?

Lets start by saying I don't have the 5D. But I do have the 1D MkIIn.

It's supposed to be the same LCD, and it is hard to read in direct sunlight, but much better than the LCD on my 20D. I've adopted the habit of wearing a hat with a broad brim (my dr recommended it, rather forcefully). It works well to shade the LCD to read my histogram (i never chimp ). It's readable almost everywhere else.

The hat has another good use too. I use it to shade by lens when I'm facing towards the sun. Dramatically improves image contrast and saturation.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I have a 5D and yes, the LCD is hard to read in bright sunlight. As the previous poster mentioned, shading it helps somewhat. What's kind of a bummer about it is you actually NEED the LCD to change some camera functions on the fly...like whether to shoot RAW or JPG or both. With the 1D and brand X cameras I could do this with a button and a twist of a dial. It's a small inconvenience but nontheless, it should have been fixed. Other than that, the camera is AWESOME. I am very happy with it.

Didn't know that. Can't you assign those functions to a button, as you could with the D60?
