Default Canon refurbs

Has anyone ever bought a refurb directly from Canon? Where you happy with your purchase if so? TIA

Bought a refurb 100M/SL1 with kit lens direct.
No problem at all.

I really believe that most refurbs are perfectly
good, trouble free gear, returned mainly due to
user error and such. In the current retail model
it's cheaper/faster to never question the buyers
who find fault, or to hire knowledgeable helpful
staff ... so you just exchange or refund stuff as
efficiently as possible.

Acoarst, once gear enters the "refurb stream"
it hasta be inspected and checked out. So by
my edumacated estimate and IMNSHO, refurb
stuff tends to be perfectly OK, brand new gear,
thaz also had the benefit of an extra round of
Quality Assurance testing and inspection.

A 7D, 6D, a 7Dmkii, 100-400mm usm is L, 24-125mm USM L macro. All worked flawlessly out of the box and continue to work perfectly 2-3 yrs later. Fast shipping, and you get the warranty with the stuff. Canon general support (general questions and minor bitches) might suck but their service dept is A1. Sold the 7D when I got the mkii and the new owner works the hell out of it... works perfect.

I have the opposite opinion. While the refurb stuff probably is fine, and probably had nothing wrong with it to begin with, I don't have the patience to deal with it. On top of that you save what $50?

The discount is never enough to make me think about it. If it were something like half price, then yea. But for $50 I want a new item, without the refurb box and material with it. It's forever branded as refurb. And all for $50 off. Not worth it in the long run.

On to of that, the refurb thing is then always on my mind. Every time from the moment I get it, when something is not working right I immediately go to, oh Jeez, it was a refurb. It probably is user error, but I'll immediately think something is wrong with it. Again, all for $50?

Ymmv but for me, the savings is not worth my peace of mind. Sell it for half off, and I'll think about, I'll probably still not get it, but I'll then start to at least think about it.

The difference here is $600 between new and refurb. I'm really considering it.

No bodies, but several lenses. Never a problem with any of it. Got the last lens in two days and I think it had never been on a camera. You get a year long warranty, so what is to lose?

Don’t you get a 5 yr warranty when it’s new?

Asked the Nikon shooter!
Canon has 1yr, and you can get extended upto 3 yrs on all new gear. So the refurb gets the standard new warranty.

Yeah. That "$50" BS is hardly typical. I've
seen some high demand items with really
negligible discounts, but most refurb deals
are quite worthwhile ... unless your OCD
is keeping you awake nights. Health is far
more valuable than any discount.

And I am extreeeemly grateful to any, and
all, who snub refurbs, open box, and used
gear, to go for the brand-new-untouched-
by-human-kooties factory-sealed gear, cuz
SOMEBODY hasta feed the pipeline Mas

Oh, I never knew Canon didn't have a 5 yr warranty.

Lol, yes that would be me, with the ocd. Even when I buy something new, if it has some sort of flaw, it bugs me. I will see it every time I use that item, and it irks me. When I notice something is off, it bugs me. So yes, buying something not perfect is not for me.

And as I said before, every time I use something and I doesn't work right, it'll always be in my mind that it was a refurb or used or whatever, and there's probably something else wrong with it as well. So no, refurb is not for me. Life is too short.

You're welcome!
