Default The anatomy of a hard drive

The hard drive

It could loosely be referred to as the sucessor to paper

A single hard drive of the correct capacity could hold every word in every book at your local library

Every web site you like is stored across multiple hard drive arrays, even photocamel!

When you open one up it looks so cool, so shiny - it makes the coolest paperweight ever

There are two extremely powerful magnets inside.

Strong enough to hang tools, that makes them very handy to grab

Taken with Kodak v803b pocket camera

Thanks for looking
Craig

I have seen the anatomy of a hard drive tons of times since my husband owned a computer store and never noticed how much it looks like a Record player till now that is neat!!

Those are some strong magnets now I know why magnets near the towers are bad.. hahah

These are very nice photos. I would recommend that one not open up a good drive since they can easily be damaged by dust contamination.

Truly, any dust would act as a grinder and destroy the integrity of the drive (as far as I know)

But any hard drive will work as a great paperweight - an old 500 MB hard drive looks the same as a new 500 GB hard drive (put simply)

So any $1 hard drive can be used.

And saclunch, it's true they look and work kinda like record players

Thanks for chiming in
