Question How to measure memory card write speed?

What can I use to measure CompactFlash and SD memory card write speeds?

Roadkil has a disk speed program that measures read speed but not write speed.

Black Magic Design has a disk speed program that only works on Apple computers -- I have a PC.

Take a look at this site. If I read it correctly it needs an empty formatted card. It loads the card with info (measures how long it takes) then down loads the info (and again measures the time this takes) then it gives you both the read and the write speeds. This was the newest item on this type of thing that I could find.

Write speed you measure in a computer is of no concern (is NOT applicable to what your camera can write - camera will be less than any high speed).

Read speed you measure in a computer IS applicable to that computer.

See Memory Card Speed - How much does the camera need?

for how to measure it in your camera (towards bottom of page).

If you do not want to rely on a software and want to test it own your own then I would advise you use a stop watch. Try to copy a large file from you pc to the memory card. The reason why you should consider a large file is because it'll give you enough time to start-stop the stopwatch. Try few times and take reading and find out the mean time.

This is a process I used couple years ago to measure file transfer speed in a hard disk.

I hope the advice was helpful.
