Default Circular Polarizer

First circular polarize arrived today. How do I use it and when?

I know to rotate it, but am I looking for what is pleasing to the eye? Or is it more specific than that? Thanks.

You can control reflections in windows, on water, and darken the sky. Adjust to taste.

Your polarizer is most effective when pointed 90-degrees from the sun. It has little effect when the sun is on axis with your camera and lens.

If your lens is too wide, you may not be able to polarize the entire field of view, which leaves you with a funny dark rectangle in your sky. Doesn't look too good.

Thanks for the info, pretty much what I thought. My widest lens it will fit is 24mm. It won't fit my 14. Hopefully 24 won't be wide enough to cause that issue.

In video mode, the circular polarizer can also be used to reduce the amount of light entering the lens.

Anytime there can be reflections (water, leaves, clouds). I just got one for Christmas. Haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet.

I think you will find that uneven darkening of the sky will easily occur with a 24mm on a full frame sensor. But try and see.

Thanks for the feedback and videos. Will have to try to test it this weekend if I can ever get a break from work.
