Default CF card

I pulled a CF card out of my bag that I haven't used for over a year and stuck it in my camera, turned the camera on and get a message "unable to use card".
I put it in a card reader on my PC, reformatted FAT and can read and write to the card normally in the PC but when I put it back in any one of 3 cameras I get the "unable to use card" message.
I've never heard of a CF card dying from non-use.
Is there a restore or recovery tool (nothing on the card) to rejuvinate a CF card?

CF cards are cheap, if this one is exhibiting issues I would bin it and buy a new one. Better to replace it now than to wish you had replaced it when it fails with an important shoot on it.

That does seem weird. I agree that it should be pitched and buy a new one. I don't think it is worth losing any images for.

Of course Bobby I had considered that but maybe I could use the card to photograph my wife's relatives?

Haha! Classic! I need one of those cards too! Maybe we could start a new business of selling cards that we *know* are bad beforehand just for those special "in-law moments"!!!

Now obviously I am *kidding*!!! I love my in-laws!!! (and my wife occasionally reads my posts!)

It's not clear whether or not you tried to format the card in camera.

Mike, if the camera can't find the card how could you possibly format it?
Now, the good news. I went to Transcends web page and found a small recovery program that has a Transcend formatting tool in it. I formated the card with that tool then placed it in the camera and the camera then did FIND the card, I then reformated with the "camera format utility" and all is well, works like "socks on a rooster" now.

Interesting, I am curious to hear if this fixes the card permanently.

Well, I would have simply ignored the initial message and gone to the appropriate menu item and chosen "format card". Perhaps you did just that and failed. Anyhow glad to hear that the problem is now resolved.

Buy a new one! You will keep having a trouble with that one.
