Default Really Right Stuff L Plate Query

Hi There,

I am buying a RRS BH-55 ballhead and an L plate, there is just one thing I am not clear on and hoping someone on here might be able to answer.

If I get the L plate do I still need to have the standard plate or does the L plate replace this all together.

L Plate: B5D3-LA: L-Plate for 5D Mk III, Rev A - B5D3-LA

Standard Plate: B5D3A: Plate for 5D Mk III, Rev A - B5D3A

Hi Dan,
I am using the same L Plate, you do not need an additional standard plate in addition to the L-Plate

It appears you either need the conventional plate or the L plate not both. It does appear you need a couple of pieces of hardware, one attaches to the ball head and the other to the L Plate.

I order to mount the camera body (in either horizontal or vertical position); all you need is the L-plate which is attached an Arca Compatible Clamp.

To mount your lens (using a tripod ring) to the Arca Compatible Plate, you either need a standard plate or a plate specifically designed for the tripod ring.

You only need one plate, the L-plate or the standard. Not both.

They do have a few two-piece options where the standard plate accepts an accessory plate to become an L-plate, but those products are usually for mirrorless cameras or very small DSLRs.

In your case, you only need one.

The "L" plate is all you will need.
