Default Gimbal head for sports?

Hi, I shoot my grandkids sports. I can't walk the sidelines because I am in a wheelchair but I have acquired some decent lenses that can reach out well. I've been told by some folks that a gimbal head will help get on shots quicker. Obviously, I don't use a tripod often but when I do, and if it is faster it might be worth doing. I need advice from people I trust-is it faster? Thanks, Mike

Yes, a gimbal head is the best way to use a supertelephoto lens on a tripod.

Keep in mind, at higher levels of competition, your tripod will not be allowed, and you will be limited to a monopod.

Mike, I'm in the similar situation and found the tripod lacking. I tried a Manfrotto monopod with a Manfrotto 3265 head and it seems to work for me on the grandsons Rugby season. A good zoom lens is a must also.
