I never saw the heron! I'll have to check, maybe I accidentally have a shot of it?

wow - I am a newbie but John, was the light that bad or what - 40 minutes PP for maybe a 1/30 sec exposure. What am I missing? It looks nice but do you think it was worth your effort? Seems like a LOT of work for what you got. I know you don't mince words so tell me about it??

ok, John,

big fallacy in my last reply - let's say twenty minutes setting up and taking the shots - still double that in PP?.. Not trying to be a SA but I don't understand Fill me in - I really need to learn this stuff and I am light years behind you

Do much landscape photography? Here are the base images:

Exposure times were 2 sec., 1/2 sec., 3/10 sec., 1/8 sec. respectively.

It took me about 5 minutes to get to the middle of the river, and 10 seconds to get the shots.

As you can see, the issue is dynamic range.

The way he processed the image is what took the time. painting in four images on masks is very time consuming/ labor intensive. The sharpening scripts also take time to run on 16-bit images If you saw the image at full Resolution you would certainly see where the time went. It's pretty easy to make an image look good for the web, but when Printing is your goal the processing changes dramatically. At least for me

Best,
Jay

John, are you implying landscape photography requires that much PP time? I hope not.

I mean, I know that particular processing technique you applied to this image required some serious computer work, but landscape photography in general? I don't think I've ever spent more than 10 minutes processing an image.
