USB 3.0

Posted 09-27-2009 at 11:39 AM by JDArt

Get ready for USB 3.0. Long in development, the successor to the popular USB 2.0 standard boasts greatly improved data transfer speeds and bi-directionality - meaning that data can be both sent and received simultaneously. The first USB 3.0 devices were unveiled at the recent Intel Developer Conference (IDF) in San Francisco. USB 3.0 will be backward compatible with USB 2.0.

Adobe CS4 installation and Copernic desktop search

Posted 09-27-2009 at 11:12 AM by JDArt

The Adobe CS4 Master Suite installation--perhaps other CS4 installations--will not function properly if Copernic desktop search is running (note its presence in system tray). Close Copernic, and CS4 will install properly.

Roxio Creator 2010: Software to avoid

Posted 09-27-2009 at 10:57 AM by JDArt

Every once in a while, I come across a software application that is so slow, slow buggy, so poorly executed, and such a pain to remove that I have to write it up. Roxio Creator 2010 is such an application. Do yourself a huge favor: avoid this piece of crap at all costs.

I have now wasted too much time trying to get it to work--the Advanced Video Editing component would not even start on Windows 7--and hope that my efforts here prevent you from doing the same.

This software...

What’s new in Windows 7

Posted 09-11-2009 at 05:09 PM by JDArt

Microsoft’s Windows 7 is bound to make the legions of existing Windows users wonder whether they should upgrade. And it will make those who have put off hardware purchases in anticipation of the new operating system wonder whether the time is right to hand over their hard-earned cash. Windows 7 has already won over the majority of those who have been beta testing the product for over a year now. So there’s really just one question that remains: will it impress you? To give you a head start on deciding,...

Obtaining RMA for Samsung Hard Drives

Posted 09-11-2009 at 08:21 AM by JDArt

Samsung does NOT make it easy to find out how to get an RMA for a defective hard drive. After a good bit of research, I finally found a method that works.

Compose an e-mail message to

hdd@totalts.com

In the subject line, write:

Service Policy/Warranty HDD/CD-ROM Drive Exchange

In the body, include this:

1. E-Mail :
2. Name :
3. Company :
4. Address :
5. City :
6. State :

Search for a user's PhotoCamel gallery

Posted 09-07-2009 at 12:10 AM by JDArt

1. Open the Galleries menu and click Browse the Gallery.

2. Click Member Galleries.

3. In the Search box, just above the Sort by drop-down, type the user name of the person whose gallery you would like to see.

You can type a full or partial user name. Doesn't matter.

4. Click Go, and PhotoCamel will return any gallery that was a full or partial match to the user name you entered.

Remove Adobe Drive CS4 from Explorer Context Menu

Posted 09-06-2009 at 06:07 PM by JDArt

Even if you uninstall Adobe Drive CS4, a stupid menu entry remains in the Explorer context-sensitive menu. I have to say, Adobe products are frustrating as hell both to install or to remove. The company is going to kill itself with this nonsense.

Anyway, I finally found a way to remove this context sensitive entry, thanks to neowin:

Any of you who have installed Adobe CS4 will know you will get a context menu entry for Adobe CS4 Drive, even if you chose not to install...
