Get rid of acrobat toolbar in Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook

Posted 04-18-2010 at 07:56 AM by JDArt

Regedit fix. This is the only one I've found that works.

1. Open the Windows registry by typing 'regedit' at the command line.
2. Backup the registry before making changes.
3. Click on the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]
then go through SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Office, Word, Addins, PDFMaker.OfficeAddin.
4. Change the subkey called "LoadBehavior" from a value of 3 to a value of 0.
5. This makes the change for Word; to do it for the other Office apps do the same thing...

Create a restore point in Windows 7

Posted 04-04-2010 at 09:42 PM by JDArt

Restore points are essential if you install some software that causes your system to become unstable. In Windows 7, restore points are created automatically --if Windows 7 is set up to create them. Unlike in previous versions, it's not easy to figure out how to create a restore point manually, however.

To do so, first ensure that System Restore is turned on. Open the Start menu, and type "system." Click the System entry under Control Panel. From within the System dialog box, click...

Why are some SSDs faster than others

Posted 04-04-2010 at 09:40 PM by JDArt

A primary differentiator of SSDs today lies in the controller technology, which handles data protection as well as writing, erasing, and wear leveling. In short, an SSD's controller is responsible for a great deal of critical activity, and some controllers simply perform better - and faster - than others. Many original SSD users complained of drives that would hang or pause temporarily or simply couldn't be counted on to run smoothly for an entire computing session - issues that were blamed squarely...

Drugstore.com spam - Beware

Posted 02-01-2010 at 05:21 PM by JDArt

I keep close track of who gets my e-mail addresses. In fact, I create e-mail addresses specifically to use with particular merchants so that I'll know if one of these merchants is responsible for compromising my privacy.

After making the mistake of purchasing something from drugstore.com, I started getting spam from all sorts of places, lots of pharma-related spam. I strongly suspect that drugstore.com either passed on my e-mail address or sold it to spammers. As a result, I WILL NEVER...

HP 2015DN in Windows 7

Posted 01-18-2010 at 08:49 AM by JDArt

The 2015DN driver included in Windows 7 does not make duplexing easy (or even possible, depending upon the program you're printing from).

The solution is to install the Windows Vista driver, which will work.

Here's the download location:

Perfect your digital photos with plug-ins

Posted 01-15-2010 at 05:08 PM by JDArt

Want your digital photos to stand out? Plug-ins may by the answer. These small add-on applications, intended to be used along with popular image editing software, are often designed for a single purpose, and the best of them can turn what would otherwise be hours of tinkering into a fun exercise that takes just a few clicks.

It's true that you can use almost any photo editor to make basic adjustments to digital photographs. Changes in brightness, contrast, and even colour are fairly...

Translation in Firefox

Posted 01-11-2010 at 01:00 PM by JDArt

Firefox users have an advantage when it comes to reading Web pages in foreign languages, thanks to the BabelFish plugin. BabelFish provides instant access to two translation services, enabling users to get almost instantaneous translations of Web pages in languages they do not know. The plugin is free.

Get rid of IE8 Welcome Page

Posted 12-12-2009 at 10:45 AM by JDArt

Never seems to go away in Win7, even if you complete the stupid questions.

Try this: Add the following key to regedit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
"IE8RunOnceCompleted"=dword:00000001
