I converted this to b/w and used bitmap for texture. All opinions are appreciated.

This is not my favorite of the images you have done Bob. I do like the way you processed it. because I really enjoy the detail. Perhaps if there were some details in the shadows that you could access without modifying the overall tonal range too much you might add even more interest to this image.

Nice composition and nice abstract form. All details visible on the shot are great.

First impression wow, great stuff. Second look, the edges between the subject and the background bug me a bit. It may actually look like this whatever this is but it looks like you did something to the edges. My overall impression is that it is still a good image but I have to know if those edges are natural or an artifact of the processing?

Hi Bob,

personally i like the colour one better , i think that the conversion lost some detail, or contrast and levels.

thanks for sharing though

Thanks It's a 5x macro of a piece of ice which I picked up off the sidewalk. It was melting quite quickly and moving when I tried to photograph it while it was on my light table. Could only get 3 photos for focus stacking. The edges are natural but the stacking needed more photos to get better edge detail. I think the bitmap failed to handle the edges especially by the framed border. Fun experiment

I think you've done better in your Rorschach sort of series. Here I prefer the b&w because the color doesn't do anything to enhance the image. It's what it is in either mono or color so why have the color? It brings nothing to the image, IMO.
