A different mood and look to these with the dark background. Maybe wanted a bit more on the right and a tick less on the left, but the composition isn't too bad as is. The detail and mood and tones are all nice in here.

The composition is pretty much set on this image, I could have cropped it a bit differently but I didn't account for the space on the right when tripping the shutter. As you said, it's the dark background coupled with the lack of movement due to the calm water that makes this one work in my opinion anyway.

I like the sharpness and cannot believe how calm the water is.... the sound is never like that
