The two walking geese are photographed quite well, showing the important details from a range of maybe four meters. Not that Canada geese as a species are slouches at long-distance flying. I am not sure that the geese around Lake Merritt here migrate at all, but some of their relatives take annual round trips of several thousand miles.

Thanks for the comments & info about Canada goose Alan. The Canada geese in our local duckpond are all resident throughout the year. Why to fly if people bring you food everyday


Demoiselle cranes also migrate between Tibet & India & crosses the Himalaya but do not fly that high. They tend to use a different route.
