Default Out for a Duck

I was up bright and early yesterday morning, showered and dressed ready for a great day’s birding.
Alas, drew the curtains, it’s raining ducks and dogs! Well so be it I thought, isn’t that one reason I bought an OMD.
So, pulled on a jacket and a waterproof hat to sally forth into the great outdoors. Being the novice birder I am, I hadn’t realised
that most birds don’t like rain any more then we do as none were to be seen. I walked along the banks of nearby One Mile Creek that runs
through Wang’ near where I live and thought I’d spend some time showing you the habitat where I practice my habit, when suddenly around a bend
swam a paddling of ducks who were right in their element! I spent three hours shooting between showers until finally down came the rain, time to go home.

Thanks Kevin, the Wood ducks I knew but did not know the name of the Black Duck. Do these two sub species interbreed? I was surprised to see them all congregated together, they seemed to be having some kind of get together and the Black Ducks (there were two) seemed to be leading it. Can you shed any light on that behaviour?

Sorry about the late reply Mark, decorating is getting in the way of enjoying life The Australian Wood Duck Chenonetta jubata is a completely different genus to the Pacific black duck Anas superciliosa and I can find no information on cross breeding.
The Pacific black duck Anas superciliosa is known to breed with the introduced Mallard Anas platyrhynchos which is causing some concern.
I think that duck, like other bird, congregate together for protection against predators.

Thanks Kevin for that info, and no worries about the late reply, I do that myself, sometimes.
I had a reply from mate of mine on another forum, to whom I posed the same question. which I think is worth quoting.

Here's an example of a domestic crossed with Pacific Black Duck at Wentworth Falls lake.
