Nice shot, I'm amazed at the differences in Dark-eyed Junco from different parts of the US

Boy that is the truth. Don't even look like the same species in some cases. This one is from western Colorado in mating colors,

Haven't shot one for awhile

The hawk migration should be warming up here locally pretty soon. literally thousands of hawks that kettle up on thermals and use them to cross the bay. Quite a sight! Usually quite high so photos are hohum. But once in awhile you get some 'low riders' and some good shots. Of course being Texas and August, Hell is cooler by 10 degrees.
