Default Grey Heron with a 3 course meal

Hello everyone, my first thread on here. This is part a sequence of shots of a Grey Heron hunting which I took a couple of weeks ago. I used a Canon 5D3 with 300mm f/2.8 IS II lens plus 2x TC III giving 600mm f/5.6. Handheld from prone position after I slowly approached the bird. Comments and critique welcome

Welcome to this forum, great start, splendid photos. I have the same lens recently added to my lens line up and I'm quite pleased with it.

Great shots.....sharp! I was wondering about the 2X TC and sharpness, I see no problem here!

Is there a sub-species difference or is this a regional naming thing? I would call this a Great Blue Heron.

I freely admit I'm barely a dilettante in birding things, and I often get IDs wrong...

I love the action in the 2nd image, guessing the bird was flipping its dinner around for easier swallowing?
