Fabulous! I have not attempted birds yet, but whilst in the UK in October I had a go shooting from the car with the car in motion! Quite surprised myself with the results. Fortunately the roads were quiet, and Andy drove carefully! Here are two of my shots:

It was! I will upload the images into my album later. The thumbnails don't do it justice at all!

Wonderful photos! Never can get birds to look like that for me.
One question, on of the earlier posters mentioned a "halo" on the last shot. I'm not seeing that. Could be my (old) monitor. Is it what you see with over sharpening?
Still loving the pix, tho!

I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU on shooting from the car. I have several areas like that that I can go also. It's ADDICT-ing-ly easy! I have found that I am MOST LIKELY to spook birds (like the herons I've missed ) when I'm getting out of the car anyway. If I drive slow, I might get more birds (?)

My biggest worry when driving in this manner or in these areas is being stopped or a citizen calling the police. I like to notify folks in the area I'm going to be in, so it's not likely I'll get called on anyway.

If I WERE to get stopped or complained on resulting in police response (and the officer didn't know me) I would plead ignorance/bad driving/stupidity, etc...

Seriously, LEOs would most likely be only concerned with whether or not I was DWI or "wanted"; upon finding out I was just a birdwatching geek they would probably be satisfied.

I don't yet have a bean bag, but that is in the works.

I have a Honda Element (which is ROOMY for it's apparent size) and I have used a partially collapsed monopod between the door and seat as a rest. I still am nervous about dust getting on my lens so I still pull the rig inside when moving if I've stirred any dust...
