Default Tern??

Hello everyone. This little guy appered a couple of weeks back. Could not a very close shot of him/her. So this is a fairly large crop. Im thinking its a tern but cannot find proper id. They are not common at all in our neck of the woods. Stayed around for a week or so very fun to watch him/her hunting. C&C welcomed and encouraged.
Camera - Nikon 300s, Lense - Nikon 200-400 w/1.7 tc, Exposure - 1/1000, Aperture - F9, ISO - 320, Focal Length - 650mm, Metering - Multi Segment, Manual.

Hi Robert, considering it's a distant shot, you did a great job, Tern like many other species get me crazy trying to ID. But in my part of the world the black bill, reddish legs and head makings would indicate a common Tern. But I wouldn't put money on my ID

Nice shot Robert. Agree with John; looks like a common tern in first winter plumage.

Nice. The limited depth of field really works for this shot.

Makes me think back to the guy who joined the Navy, then was stationed to a remote base in the Aleutians. With limited recreational opportunities, on his days off he would frequently walk on the beach and amuse himself by throwing rocks at the seabirds. By the time he left, there wasn't a tern unstoned.

Not sure on the ID, nicely taken at distance though.
