Default Western Grebes at Sunrise

I tried out a new place yesterday - The Glendale Recharge Facility to the west of Phoenix. I almost gave up because the mosquitos were driving me crazy and the ponds were so exposed that the 300mm + 1.4xTC did not have enough reach. I was literally packing up when the sun broke the horizon and lit up the red earth on the opposite bank - the result was phenomenal. This image has been cropped and sharpened, but the colours are straight out of the camera. I chose the vertical crop because it included the full range of colours, the landscape crop did not.

EXIF: Manual Mode, 1/250", f5.6, 420mm, ISO 320, Pattern Metered.

Comments and criticism welcome

For comparison, here is the landscape version taken minutes before the vertical composition. The colours are a little darker because the sun was not totally above the horizon at this point.

Oh Alex, these two are stunner's with that warm glow of the setting sun.
I for one cannot find a thing on those to pass any critique, i would hang them on my wall anytime.
BTW i like the landscape version the best.

Some worthy K on its way

Best regards Paul
