Default Something new and different - Critique

I just had to, its in my nature!

Now its a question of either you hate it, or love it.
i was disappointed at all the clutter in the BG, so i used Picasa 3 to create a well defined blur around the outer edge of the image, but leaving a big section in the middle sharp.

Look forward to all your views, good or bad!

Best regards Paul

I am on the fence... (haha) I like it, but I would maybe make the bg even darker to make him pop a little more.. Just my .02c

Sorry Paul, it's not for me. It's too defined. Try duplitating the layer, bluring the background layer and then erase the background from the top layer to reveal the blured background. I would probable use a hide all mask on the top layer instead of using the eraser as it's more controllable but I'm not sure you can in elements

Thanks Miranda for your reply.
This is just experimental and can be taken a stage further by darkening the BG as you suggested.
Really rather than processing in this way, i should get it right in camera when shooting.

Best regards Paul

Thanks Kevin for your comments and critique.
I did say you either love it or loath it, its the type of image where there is no middle ground.
As to hide all mask!, well i just would not have a clue if its possible on Elements, i am not that familiar with it yet , but heck why not give it ago!

Best regards Paul

Remember Ron, all that glitters is not gold!, this was so easy to do it just takes a matter of seconds on some old software i still keep on the computer.
As to the tail feathers being in focus, well it may be possible!, but i haven't a clue how to go about that

Best regards Paul

Well I'm going to have to go in the grey area .. good points. the lines it does drawing you through the image. Starting at the board on the upper left going down through the bird's tail onto the stick that runs you back down to the bottom left.
Fun "s" line
Bad point. The bird looks like it has a stick for head feathers. I think there needs to be some blur or something that large log is growing out of birds head. maybe if we seen the bottom of the log/stick it wouldn't be so bad.
I love the blur I think it's effective

The bird is in competition with the background. Once you fix that, I think you'll have a better picture.
