Default B4 & After - Background swap

Was at the in-laws on Christmas day. Grandma asked to get some family photos. It was a very busy day for all and I knew I wouldn't have time to do a full location studio setup in their house.

I took my Einsteins, two stands, and a tripod. It's a smallish house, but newer and it's all white with vaulted ceilings in the great room. I bounced the lights off the ceiling.

Still working on my group photo posing. I should have tucked my wife in between me and my oldest daughter (bow tie) - and a posing stool would have been helpful for Grandma ... riding a bit low in this shot.

Any how, the background ended up being more unsightly than expected. I thought they had vertical blinds on the windows, but I was wrong. Swapping out the background was pretty easy and worthwhile.

I would say you did a fine job on this.

What a difference it made to the photo. I always wanted to try changing backgrounds. Your photo is giving me the push I need.

Once again, it makes for a more appealing photo, as my eyes were drawn to the blinds.

When I use 'magic eraser' I'm left with a white line on the outlines

That's why I used a light-gray background. I can be a lot messier with the masking, but with very little contrast between the original and new, the flaws go unseen. If went for a dark or colored background it would look pretty rough in spots.

To clean up the masking, try REFINE EDGE - you can offset the edge positive or negative to help hide fringing.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a go when I find it.
