Thanks to both of you. Yes, a pano. The closer I get to rotating precisely at the sensor, the better this works.

It isn't the sensor but the no-parallax point of the lens that is the sweet spot. For most lenses where I have actually measured the location of the no-parallax point, it is at or near the edge of the focus ring nearest the photographer. In one exceptional case where I mounted a Nikon TC-E2 in front of the lens, the no-parallax point was several cm behind the camera body.
