My bokeh:

Waterfront05_DSC0245.jpg

Straight-blade hexagonal iris at about
f/8.0, on a mildly wide angle FF lens.

3-D look without the "airbrush" effect.

And again ....

VinYd_DSC0204.jpg

Just can't imagine working without
enuf DOF to provide "living space".
But neither would I prefer infinite
[or seemingly infinite] DOF cuz that
destroys the sense of dimension and
ability to place the emphasis where
I choose to place it. Thaz MY bokeh !

Guess I musta missed the committee
meeting where bokeh was redefined
to be the equivalent of airbrushing ...

The creative challenge is in how to
work with the environment. There's
nothing creative about "airbrushing"
it into oblivion ... thaz for slackers :-(

It was never "redefined" it always meant the blurriness of the background. You seem to think that it means "the area behind the subjects", which is not the case. It probably got lost in translation, but:

"The term comes from the Japanese word boke (暈け or ボケ), which means "blur" or "haze", or boke-aji (ボケ味), the "blur quality". The Japanese term boke is also used in the sense of a mental haze or senility.[8] The term bokashi (暈かし) is related, meaning intentional blurring or gradation."

Looking good - I particularly like your chosen subject, the inside of the blossom. Good composition and colours too.

Once photography enters your bloodstream, it is like a disease.

Software: Too numerous to list but my most used utility is ShiftN for perspective correction

Gear: Canon G12, no tripod, no lenses, no flash, no remote, no cases or bags!
