You did well. I spent 90 minutes after sunset last night and saw nothing but stars.

Thanks what is the town you are in?
I will look at stellarium and post a screenshot of where to find it by time.

We are not even close to a town. We are 30 miles upstream from Ugashik Village whose winter population sometimes reaches 6-8 and 80 air miles straight south of King Salmon Alaska. The nearest road system is Anchorage about 300 air miles NorthEast of us.

This is a temporary video to show you in your area
where you can see it and by time
Sorry that it freezes started doing this
once it was uploaded to youtube but
I will create a tutorial later on today

Best viewed in HD1080P on youtube full screen so you can
see the coordinates degree of view etc..

As a generality I am in Southwest Alaska as Alaska covers a lot of area. The video didn't freeze for me. If I read it correctly it showed the comet very low on the horizon. Everything I had seen previously showed the comet just to the left of the moon which was still quite high in the horizon at sunset last night(8:27PM) I stayed outside until the moon finally set at 11:37. If I follow the youtube video correctly it shows the comet very close to the horizon at sunset which would make it very difficult to see. Also I don't see the moon in video which was my reference point.
Thanks for taking the time to put the video up.

I'll be trying every night, Joshua, until it's out of sight.

I have my camera set up ready to go and my alarm set to remind me to get out there, so far I've been greeted with nothing but cloud!

Excellent work there, btw

I was more than amazed at how well that little point and shoot performed in such dim lighting! So I split my time between shooting with that and the D90 for the short duration of the event.
