It was staring at me ...

Didn't really hafta abstract this from all the clutter of "reality". It
was already sticking out lik a busted thumb, just sorta staring at
me me. All I hadda do was a minor cleanup:

Love this, I miss playing the base guitar but I cut a nerve in my left index finger last year and no way can I touch a string anymore. Even flossing the teeth is a challenge. Paul

Very cool shapes and interesting composition.

I feel the editing is a bit harsh, IF you think back to what it is what it must have looked like. Guess that's only a photographer's view tho.

Not sure just what you mean by "editing" ... the crop ? the tonality ? the
whateverrrr .... but as to "what it must have looked like" before editing,
what you see is pretty much what it looks like. It's a white bass, altho a
bit yellowed at 35 years old, and those elements that appear black or dark
very nearly black are actually quite dark to the naked eye.

Thaz why I said that I didn't hafta abstract if from "normal" appearance,
that this bold set of shapes were just staring right at me, waiting to be
recorded [with minimal "clean-up"] in order to be shared by other eyes.

Odd thing is that I've never had an example of this bass in any sort of
"natural wood" finish. This one's white, my previous example was black,
and the black one never impressed me visually, but THIS one, at first
glance I knew I hadda have it. I'd already owned one, so I knew much of
what it would be like to play it. IOW, I bought it [partly] as visual art. I
then tried to share it, visually, in a fairly straightforward manner.

This is pretty cool. The high contrast make it for me.

The thing about this that really set me on my ear is the out-of-round sound hole.

I meant the contrast, mainly. It looks almost like there are only 3 values in the picture, which makes it look cool, but also weird, at least to my (photographer's) eye.

The out-of-round sound hole is part of the
look of this ax. It has a number of weirdish
design elements.

As to the contrast, while it's obvious that
contrast has been boosted, it's only had a
minor bump up. Consider the subject. It
bassically has no midrange to record. The
dark areas are nearly black, the light area
is nearly bald white and without texture
that could otherwise introduce mid-tones.
The strings are polished metal, but even in
the low rez required by this forum you can
see some mid-tones in the strings [which
are rendered only a few pixels in diameter].

Like I've been repeating, this thing was just
staring at me, ready to be captured in close
to "as seen" version, begging to be shared.

What was I doing when I stumbled upon it ?
I was glancing around the room for a likely
target to check out the new-to-me optical
image stabilizer in a 6X tele [210mm APS-C].
The contrasty nature of the details of this
instrument hit me as something that would
really "rat out" any camera shake [1/15th] in
the low light situation [ISO 3200]. IOW the
scene was gonna look just about the way it
is captured and presented here, or else it
was gonna be toadally unpresentable, mainly
depending upon how effective the OSS may
prove itself to be. Verdict: It shoots 300mm
[FF equiv] at 1/15 sec. Proof is right above.

I kinda figured that the processing had been minimal. I guess I also forgot to mention that I like it a lot. You now have really piqued my curiosity about what this guitar looks like as a whole and some of the other unusual visual features it might have besides the sound hole.
