Default Project 2018 - An image a week (at least)

This year, I am going to work on my Black and White imagery, so a lot of my weekly postings will be in Black and White. Given the time of year (winter) and my love of the mountains, I thought it only fitting to start the year off with a winter scene in the mountains in Black and White, or course.

This image was shot from the eastern shore of the Upper Kananaskis Lake, Alberta, Canada, looking west towards British Columbia which is just on the other side of the mountain in the far background. This lake is about a 1.5 hour drive west and south of where I live.

It was shot with my Canon 5D IV and a 24-105mm L IS II lens and processed in Lightroom Classic CC.

As usual, relevant comments and questions are welcome.

Week 2 - Water and Ice.

This was shot with my 5D IV and a 24-105L IS II Lens. Processing was done in Lightroom Classic CC.

This image was shot at a waterfall not far from where live. I am hoping to go back and try a different technique for waterfalls with an ND filter that produces the "smooth" water texture.

As usual, relevant questions and comments are welcome.

Week 3 - Tulip in Black and White

I am a little late with this weeks image , so I am playing catch up.

Shot with my 5DIV and a 24-105L IS II lens. Processing was in Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC.

This was an experiment with black and white and a textured background.

As usual, relevant comments and questions are welcome.

Interesting shot and processing WG. I like the "look" of the b&w and the texture.
My mind does have trouble with the floating vase however. But don't pay me no mind...my criticism is often baseless.

Thanks Mike. I had some challenge trying to figure out what to do with the vase. I tried a couple of approaches to "putting" something that looked like a table underneath the vase, but I couldn't decide on anything that made me happy about the image, so I left it "floating". I still am thinking about what to do with it though.

Don't ever worry about "baseless criticism" . I am always interested in how people perceive my images - I may not always agree with them, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, assuming it is thoughtful and relevant.

I think it looks good.
I was just trying to figure out some way to work in my "baseless" comment.

Please excuse my delay in responding to your new 52 project, WG.
I only just now discovered it.
These shots are a great start to your 2018 project.
My favorite is the first image from the Kananaskis area.
A beautiful shot for sure.
It has been almost two years since we visited there and we hope to get back there this summer.

Thanks Wolf. Glad you like them. Hope you do get to the Kananaskis this year. One of the most beautiful scenic areas in the province, at least IMHO.

The shot in post #1 is stunning.
Maybe a rough slab of granite or flagstone under the vase?

Thanks Greg, glad you liked it.

I appreciate your suggestion for the vase. It was shot in a setup which was entirely white so that I could remove the background and substitute a texture. I have "experimented" with some different things to go under it, but I really didn't like some of the ones I have tried as they looked worse than just leaving it "suspended". If I could find an image of a solitary table, then I might try to see how that looks. Regardless, I would probably have to change the texture aspect of it to accommodate any additions and/or put a shadow with it somehow, which is a bit beyond my current PS abilities, but I'm working on it.

This is why a lot of my flower images are the results of experimentation - some experiments work and some don't - this one didn't work the way I was hoping it might. I am still going to experiment with this one though to see if I can find something that works.
