Week #7, Mike’s 2017 Project 52 – “Trumpeter Swans…”

Early to mid April typically marks the arrival of various waterfowl to the 1,800 acre Creamers Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge located on the outskirts of Fairbanks. Trumpeter Swans, which can have up to a seven foot wing span are a local favorite and are pretty impressive to listen to and watch when they take flight, especially when highlighted by the evening sun.

Canon 7D, Canon 100-400mm, 1/5000sec, f/5.6, iso 400

Thanks wolfd. The sandhill cranes are due in soon. Another interesting bird to shoot.

Week #8, Mike’s 2017 Project 52 – “Evening light…”

It’s been a long cool spring but things are finally starting to warm up a bit. Monday night (April 24, 2017) was the first time the overnight low did not drop below freezing since Sept. 23, 2016. That’s 213 straight days of a nighttime low below freezing. But the snow pack is quickly melting and surrounding rivers, lakes, and waterways will soon start to open up. In this photo the evening sun slowly warms one of the many bogs in the Chena River State Recreational Area.

Canon 5DIII, Canon 16-35mm, f/18, iso 100, 3 exposures +/-2 stops, Photomatix, Lightroom

Thanks wolfd.

Here are a couple more from week #8.

Working my way on the high ground along the slough...wet knee deep snow in some places.

One from a little farther down the slough. There was a beaver damn behind me, but I couldn't get any angle that gave me good light.

Mike, nice shots of "spring on the way". The first one is my fav out of the 3 of them.
