Wow....some amazing shots!! Can't imagine these becoming 'regular' shots LOL.....they are all just incredible. I have done a POTW for about 4-5 yrs. now. Helps to keep me using my camera and checking out news ways to do so. I have an email list and that helps keep me accountable as folks do look forward to seeing them.
Best of luck to you....I look forward to watching and maybe I'll take a minute to upload mine

That first shot in post #10 looks like a bird taking flight. They all make me want to experience the Aurora first hand.

Thanks Taigen and Gregw.

Taigen...like everything, sometimes you get on a roll and sometimes not so much. I do try to put some effort into my shots, but sometimes it seems good opportunities are hard to come by. The aurora is done until next September. The trick is to just plug along I guess and see what I come up with.

Gregw...yea, I thought so too, and so did folks on facebook My original title for it was "Screech."

Week #5, Mike’s 2017 Project 52 – “Tulip-amigos…”

This past week was filled with cloudy skies, light snow, and flat light, so I decided to take the easy way out and try a few close up shots in my basement. With a small bunch of tulips in my left hand, a cold beer in the right, and NCAA hockey on the telly, I may have just found my fall back “plan B”. With a couple feet of snow still on the ground It will be quite a while before we see any flowers without a cellophane wrapper and a bar code. This shot is against a black cardboard background with just a little window light from the side. After the tulips open up I may even try a true macro shot.

Canon 5DIII, Canon 100mm, .6 sec, f/8.0, iso 200, Lightroom.

Week #6, Mike’s 2017 Project 52 – “Easter Aurora…”

Having just spent three days in Anchorage I decided to drive back to Fairbanks on the Glenn/Richardson highways late Saturday evening. Thought I would drive a few hours, catch a nap in the truck, and then head into Fairbanks Sunday morning. I was hoping to catch a nice sunset, sunrise, or maybe early morning wildlife, thinking aurora chasing was over for the year.

Although not officially open, I took a detour out the Denali Highway which is drivable out to about mile 18. I pulled over to catch some shut eye about 12:30am but when checking my tires I realized the aurora was making an appearance over the Alaska Range among partly cloudy skies. This is a totally different perspective than I normally shoot. I believe the lights on the right are at Summitt Lake. The aurora itself was only marginal, but the Alaska Range along with a distant setting sun, clouds, and un-intrusive light pollution pulled this whole scene together.

Canon 5DIII, Canon 16-35mm, 11 sec, f/2.8, iso 3200, 4 shot pano, Lightroom

A few more from week #6.

Gulkana Glacier, south slope of the Alaska Range, just north of Summit Lake:

The view lasts forever, the old delapidated cabin not so much:

Another aurora pano:

Thanks WG. That's probably the last aurora post this season...
