For stuff like this I let the camera do exposure Used one of the Scene modes I think the one for landscape not sure.
One way round this (especially if you are on a tripod) is to take more than one exposure when the people move giving you clear background as a combination of them all and then load them into Photoshop as a stacked layers. Then mask out the people where you are able on the individual layers.

That is a cool idea, I recently read someone using stacked layers, new concept for me at least in digital world. Astronomy photos , at least use to, were done in B&W and using various filters and then combined into color photos.

Thank you, I see you started a new one as well. Good luck. The hand was cool, I was not even planning on shooting, but I did take the camera with me to the mall. Now I will again start carrying the camera with me like I use to before model photography. Yes I normally have the P&S with me but now I will instead have the DSLR. Nice to get back to my roots during film days, shooting buildings and structures from odd angles. Some times I look at a photo after and wonder how was I holding camera for that one.

Nice shots. The folks around here would have a fit if our gas was at that price!

Thank you.

SOOC looked kinda BLAH so tweaked. It was way too cold out to do any adjustments to camera (-20C and with wind -30C, hand froze in a few mins)

Nice sun flare shot through the trees, Eero. I like the first one best too.

Your gas prices are slightly less than the $1.30 / litre we are paying here at the moment.
