Was just curious about what everyone else was doing. I myself, have not taken the time to learn how to do RAW. I shoot exclusively jpeg. But soon, willl be taking that leap. Just something I want to learn.

BTW. Not saying one is better then the other. Just asking

I shoot Raw and JPEG.

I save all the Raw files that are worth a darn to my external HD, and eventually dump most of the jpegs.

Using Raw lets you use all the data from your image in Post Prosessing for your final output to be the best you can have.

Raw, but converting the camera raw files to DNG files which are more universal. The purpose of shooting raw is that you extract from the camera the maximum amount of information that the camera has to offer. The raw file has a wider exposure latitude than a jpeg, and is an uncompressed file (usually).

I shoot RAW, Pete. I would recommend it for exactly those reasons Lorenzo mentioned above.

Once you try it, you'll never change.

The downside is the size of the files, bloomin humongous, so get a couple more external HDs

Pete, I shoot raw and jpg together. Very rarely use the jpgs, but like to be able to see them in the Windows viewer which can't open the raw files for viewing.

I found the quality of my images increased quite a lot when I started shooting raw and converting them myself.

Switch your camera over now so that when you have learned how to convert them, you will have plenty to play with.

Raw is the way to go if you are shooting serious shots. You have more versatility with RAW than you do with JPG. You can take severely under/over exposed shots and resurrect them. With JPG you only have the brighten option which blows whites out.

I do use JPG when I am shooting snapshots however, it does have its merits.

Thanks everyone. I will make the switch soon. Trying to get me a cheapo wide angle as the old one just isn.t cutting it any longer. Then an external HD so I can handle all of those large files. My computer is like a 2007 model so, it is already slow as crap....LOL

Clare, there is a fantastic littel utility called Fast Picture Viewer which enables windows to see previews of all files including RAW. It runs behind the scenes and odes not hog your PC's resources. Lets you shoot RAW without the jpgs. I have been using it for 2 years now without a hitch. Well supported by a genius creator. If you are interested you can check out the app at the link below.
