Arrow How has your photography improved?

As I approach the last few days of my 365 project, I have been looking back at the progress I've made over the year.
For me it has been an interesting time of discovery. I've taken pictures of different things and in different ways than I was doing a year ago.
There is quite a lot of nature pictures in the mix, but then again I think of myself as a nature togger.
But, there is an eclectic mix of images that I feel very proud of.
I've learnt new techniques and improved on others.
I've started to learn and use studio lights which I am really enjoying.
Taking pictures of people in the street is getting a bit easier.
I've been improving my macro skills and loving the lens.

One thing I found hard was to choose a single image for the day, but in most cases did do.
It's far harder to stand by your best single image than a selection of many.
In my Flickr account I have a set that includes a single image for each day.
I did post more than one image on my thread, but picked one to go in my 365 set.
This is a summary of my images so far as thumbnails, and over the next few days I will finish processing the others.

Project 365 2011/2012 - a set on Flickr

For those of us who have been doing a 365 for more than six months...how do you feel you have improved?
What skills have you gained and what did you find the best thing?
What advice would you give to others thinking about doing a 365?

If you have a summary of thumbnails for your daily pictures include a link for that too.

Well, I have not been doing it for 6 months so I can not really say. Have my photos gotten better? Don't know. But, I have learned to look at things totally different. And now find myself wanting to experiment more and take more then just one grab shot (when time permits) by playing with the aperture and shutter speeds. Will I make it to the end? Doubt it. But, I am giving it a good try.

Congrats (ealy albeit) on the completeion. It is a big undertaking that not all can do.

I started out taking/posting just one photo as well. But have gotten in the habit of taking soo many now, hard to choose. So I too, post more then one......

Pete, do you choose one for your monthly summary?

Sounds like you are improving if you are starting to experiment and learning to see.
Keep at it and don't worry if you miss a day or even a few.
Add the days to the end and carry on.

Thanks Clare. I have not missed a day yet. Only missed a posting day due to computer issues.

I post several but, only pick one shot for the official day. I then do a monthly page/calender of all those shots at the end of the month.

I never (or very rarely) take only one picture in a day. Some days I take several hundred...lol
You monthly calendar pictures are very good.

Firstly, I have not been doing this for over 6 months, so rule broken. My photography has not improved because I have not taken the effort and committed myself to my 365 project. My fault, no excuses, only 'reasons'.

Not over 6 months yet but I have shot things I would not shoot. I have pushed different things and tried different things that I would not have tried. I shoot different subjects that I would not have shot. I did use one of my shots to win a competition at the local club one night too.

Thank you Clare.

I average only about 20-30 a day but sometimes only one or two. I have found though, that I am somewhat limited on my shots due to lenses. I need a good wide angle or macro. I only have a kit 28-80 that came with my Rebel 2000 35mm film camera. It is very lacking and soft focuses alot. My other lenses are good to go however. Just need a wide or macro

You have a couple of long lenses haven't you , Pete? 70-200 and a 400mm?
Those are both great lenses and I have loved seeing your birds.
I do love my macro lens and use it a lot. The other lens I use quite a bit is the 15-85 lens.

It all depends on the type of photography you want to do. The 70-200 is actually quite good as a street lens if you don't want to get too close.
Your 400mm lens is wonderful for wildlife.

Yep. I have the longer stuff covered. The 70-200 however has a focus min. of 3 1/2 feet. So, can't get too close. And if I want to do a landscape or get closer, no good. I shoot anything and everything. I knew I would need a wide angle sooner or later and started with the longer stuff because I knew spring was just around the corner. I'll get me one. Just a matter of time....LOL

Thanks for the kind words. Wildlife is the whole reason I started with the longer ones first....
